Crowdfunding

Do you dream of taking part in one of the missions proposed by Naturevolution but you’re broke?

Crowdfunding is for you!

What is it all about?

The term “crowdfunding” means calling on the generosity and support of your friends and family, your network, etc. to help you finance the project of your dreams.

In this case, the idea is simple: you collect donations for Naturevolution’s conservation programmes until you reach a fund equivalent to the amount of your participation in the ecovolunteer mission of your choice. Once this limit has been reached, you can go out into the field with us. ;-)

What should I do?

Step 1 – Creating your fundraising page

To be able to raise the money you need to come to the field, you first need to create your fundraising page in support of Naturevolution’s conservation programmes in Sulawesi and Madagascar.

This is an important step, because it will be the page that all your donors see, and it will make their lives a lot easier by allowing them to make a donation online and automatically generating the receipt for the tax deductions to which they are entitled. What’s more, you can easily send out appeals for donations to your friends and family by e-mail or via social networks.
It needs to be precise, concise, clear and sexy.
To do this, please follow the steps set out in the section below entitled “How do I create my fundraising page?”.

Step 2 – Mobilisation

The second step is to mobilise as many people as possible around your campaign. To do this, we invite you to follow Helloasso’s advice in this pdf document. We can also help you with the mobilisation process if you so request.

Just because you’ve created a fundraising page doesn’t mean you’ll be successful! Successful fund-raising requires a significant investment in terms of time, motivation and a touch of creativity. But it’s not rocket science either, and with a little effort, the results are always there. 70% of those of our ecovolunteers who have chosen crowdfunding (an average of 15 people per year) have managed to raise the necessary funds for their mission, and some highly motivated volunteers have even managed to do so in just a few weeks.

What is the advantage of HelloAsso over other crowdfunding platforms?

There are dozens of crowdfunding platforms available today, all great tools for collecting donations. But most of them deduct a significant proportion of your earnings in various fees (bank charges, paypal, management fees, etc.) or may even withhold the entire amount raised if you do not reach your fund-raising target.

The HelloAsso platform we use – which is specially dedicated to non-profit organisations – is an exception in that it guarantees that the entire amount raised will be paid back to your project, even if you don’t reach your stated goal.

What happens to the funds?

The donations you collect online are added transparently to your kitty and also transferred to your chosen crowdfunding campaign (Makay or Nord Konawe).

You can also collect donations “offline”, for example during rice bowl events, wristband sales, tombolas, screening evenings, exhibitions, etc. Off-line donations collected in the form of cheques or cash can then be manually transferred to your kitty and to the kitty of the chosen fundraising campaign.

Donations collected are non-transferable, non-exchangeable and non-refundable. But if you don’t achieve your goal in the first year, we offer you the chance to qualify in 2 years.

How do I create a fundraising page?

Step 1

  • First go to the campaign that best suits your project:
    • Protect the Konawe karsts if you want to take part in our missions in Indonesia
    • Protect the Makay massif if you want to take part in our missions in Madagascar
  • Then click on the “Start my collection” button
  • Enter the information requested, including :
    • If you don’t have any ideas for the title of your page, just write “My fundraising page”.
    • In the “Explain why you want to launch a fundraising campaign” box, don’t enter anything for the moment if you’re not ready!
    • In the “Financial objective” box, enter your fundraising objective (for example, the amount of your mission + the cost of the plane ticket).
  • Click on “Validate”.

Step 2

  • Open your collection page by clicking on the link included in the email sent by Helloasso following the creation of your page.
  • Once you are back on your page, click on “Modify content” in the small “Settings” window that appears on the right.
  • Once you are in the administration interface for your :
    • Add a subtitle (e.g. “In favour of the protection of the Makay massif in Madagascar” or “For the preservation of biodiversity”).
    • In the “Presentation of your fundraising page” box, explain why you are launching your fundraising campaign or why you are committed to the cause you wish to defend. This is where all your creativity needs to shine through. To help you write this page successfully, please refer to this document provided by Helloasso. You can:
      • Copy and paste your presentation text from Word or another document. Your Word layout and any web links you may have included will be retained.
      • Be careful to choose fonts that are fairly common and recognised by the web, otherwise they will be automatically converted.
      • Add as many photos as you like. If you want them to take up the whole width of the page, simply resize them on your computer to a width of 1000 pixels.
      • Feel free to add videos and links if you think they would be useful.
    • Add a collection end date if required. Having a deadline can be more engaging for your potential supporters, who will be less likely to put off making a donation until later.
    • Click on “Save”

Rest assured, you can always modify and improve this page even after it has been published.

What arguments can you use to motivate your donors?

  • Their donation is an important contribution to the conservation of biodiversity and the protection of our planet’s last lost worlds.
  • Their donation entitles them to a tax deduction* of 66% of the amount of the donation for an individual (capped at 20% of income) and 60% for a company (capped at 0.5% of turnover). An individual donation of €100, for example, will only cost your donors €34.
  • Naturevolution is a beneficiary of the 1% for the Planet network. This network is an international movement of companies that donate 1% of their sales to environmental protection organisations. This is a good way for companies to play an active role in protecting nature in a sustainable way, and to use the 1% for the planet label to communicate their commitment. You can suggest that the companies you contact join this network.
